Good to know before you send

The questions we get most, grouped. Anything not covered, reach us at info@ipaymate.com or +1 647 493 8248.

Sending
How fast does the money arrive?

Up to $500 per transfer is available in the wallet within minutes of your card payment clearing to us, at any hour, and the remainder reaches the wallet within 3 business days. Choosing a direct bank deposit instead takes the full amount in 7 to 10 days to major banks, 10 to 15 days to others.

Can I pay outside banking hours?

Yes. Card payments work at any hour, including nights, weekends and public holidays, and the instant portion is released as soon as the payment clears to us.

What does it cost?

You see two things before you confirm: the exchange rate applied and our fee. There are no deductions after that. Full detail is on the pricing page.

Is there a limit on how much I can send?

Transfer limits depend on your verification level and the destination, and are shown in the app before you confirm. The $500 figure is the instant-access portion per transfer, not a limit on the transfer itself.

Receiving
Does my recipient need a bank account?

No. They can take the money as gift cards, on a prepaid Visa, or hold it in the wallet. A bank deposit is there for those who want it.

Can they split a transfer across options?

Within the wallet, yes: gift cards, the prepaid Visa and held balance mix freely. The bank option is different, it takes the whole transfer as one deposit instead of going through the wallet.

How does my recipient know money has arrived?

They are notified the moment your payment clears to us, by app notification and SMS or email, with the instant portion already available to use.

What if they do not have the app?

The notification carries a secure link to claim the transfer and choose how to take it. Downloading the app makes it easier but is not required to receive.

Gift cards and rewards
How do the gift cards work?

Your recipient can convert some or all of a transfer into digital gift cards from a catalogue of hundreds of brands, worth more than the amount converted. Cards are delivered instantly in the app.

Which brands are in the catalogue?

The catalogue covers groceries, fuel, mobile top-up, dining and retail, and varies by country. The full live list is shown in the app for the recipient's country.

What are wallet rewards?

Balances left in the iPayMate wallet earn cashback rewards each week they stay. The wallet is not a bank account and rewards are promotional cashback, not interest. There is no lock-in.

Can rewards be withdrawn?

Yes. Rewards are paid into the wallet as cashback and can be spent, converted or withdrawn the same as any other wallet balance.

Account and verification
Why do you need my ID?

iPayMate is a money services business registered with FINTRAC in Canada, and verifying every customer is a legal requirement. It also protects your account and your recipient.

My payment was declined. What now?

Most declines come from the card issuer, not us. Check the card details and available limit, or try another card. If it keeps happening, contact us and we will look at it with you.

A transfer is taking longer than expected

Occasionally a transfer is paused for a routine check, which is part of how we keep the service safe. You can see the status live in the app, and we contact you if we need anything.

How do I make a complaint?

Email info@ipaymate.com with the word complaint in the subject and we respond within two business days. The full process is on the complaints page linked in the footer.
